Van de Graaff Generator

I have nearly finished designing, building, and fabricating parts for my Van de Graaff Generator. This is an electromechanical device that uses turning rollers, which are inter-connected by a moving belt and covered with appropriate materials in order to produce a very high electrical potential on the order of millions of volts.

The machine works by forcing electrons from one point to another. Eventually a discharge, similar to that of a lightning bolt, takes place. The re-charge / discharge cycle then repeats at a frequency proportional to the rotational velocity of the motor.

On this page is a video of the generator and pictures of sparks that the generator produced.
